The Academy Awards returned in grand style in 2026, bringing together some of the biggest names in global cinema for a night celebrating outstanding achievements in film.

The Academy Awards delivered a few surprises in 2026, despite expectations that the night would largely be a close contest between two highly nominated films.

For much of the evening, attention centered on Sinners, a vampire epic by Ryan Coogler that set a record with 16 nominations, and One Battle After Another, which followed closely behind with 13 nominations.
