Onuachu closes in on Trabzonspor all-time scoring record

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu is edging closer to a major milestone at Trabzonspor, with the forward now within touching distance of the club’s all-time single-season scoring record for a foreign player.

The Nigerian completed a permanent move from Southampton last summer and has delivered immediate returns in the Süper Lig.

He has scored 18 league goals and provided two assists in 21 appearances, directly contributing to 41.67% of Trabzonspor’s goals this season.

Record within reach

According to Turkish reports, Onuachu is eight goals shy of surpassing Shota Arveladze, who netted 25 league goals during the 1995/96 campaign.

Breaking that mark would make Onuachu the highest-scoring foreigner in a single Süper Lig season in Trabzonspor’s history.

The 29-year-old’s form has propelled the Black Sea Storm into third place, keeping them within outside reach of the title race.

His current output is on track to become his most productive season since 2020/21, when he registered 33 goals and four assists for Genk in Belgium.

Clinical edge driving push

Onuachu has demonstrated variety in his finishing. He leads the Turkish top flight in headed goals with seven, while also contributing decisive finishes with his feet. Several of his strikes have earned Goal of the Month recognition.

Trabzonspor’s remaining fixtures present opportunity. They face only one side currently above them – Galatasaray, and half of their final ten games will be played at home.

Should the leaders falter, Onuachu’s goals could become central to an unlikely but credible title surge. At minimum, he stands on the brink of rewriting club history.
