Olumide Akpata (born October 7, 1972, in Edo South Senatorial District, Edo State) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician. He was a senior partner and leader of the Corporate and Commercial Practice Group at Nigeria’s Templars legal firm before resigning on August 31, 2023, to pursue partisan politics.
In September 2023, he organised the “KingsWeek 2023” program with the Old Boys Association of King’s College in Lagos. In July 2020, he became Nigeria’s first non-Senior Advocate in 28 years to be elected president of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Akpata was born on October 7, 1972, in Berlin, Germany. He began his schooling at Nana Primary School in Warri, then attended Federal Government College in Warri and later King’s College in Lagos. He earned a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Benin in Edo State in 1992 and was admitted to the bar in 1993. He participated in the National Youth Service Corps in Kano State.
Career
Akpata began his legal career in Delta State, under the supervision of Mudiaga Odje. Akpata moved to Lagos in 1996 and formed a partnership with his cousin, Oghogho Akpata, who had recently established the law company Templars.
Akpata is currently a senior partner at Templars and the leader of the Corporate & Commercial Practice Group. He was the chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association’s Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL).
On July 30, 2020, he was elected president of the Nigerian Bar Association, defeating Babatunde Ajibade and Dele Adesina.
