Old video of Wizkid saying he can’t be compared to Fela trends online

An old video of Grammy-winning singer Wizkid addressing comparisons between himself and Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has resurfaced online.
The clip, originally recorded some time ago and shared by olamideofficial on X (formerly Twitter), has gone viral.
Wizkid Speaks on Fela Comparisons
In the resurfaced video, Wizkid could be heard saying he cannot be compared to Fela, describing him as someone who inspires his career.
The music star emphasized that Fela’s influence on music and culture is unmatched, calling the legendary musician a major source of inspiration.
He said: “You can’t compare me with Fela, mentioning me and Fela in the same sentence is a disrespect. That’s someone that inspires me, I have him tattooed on my body.”
Clip Resurfaces Amid Feud
The video has resurfaced amid a public feud between Wizkid and Seun Kuti, Fela’s youngest son.
The clash began after Seun attacked Wizkid’s fanbase, Wizkid FC, for allegedly disrespecting his late father’s legacy by making comparisons.
Wizkid responded online, calling Seun a “fool at 40” and adding: “Fela fight for freedom, this fool dey fight FC.”
Charly Boy Steps In
Veteran entertainer and activist Charly Boy weighed in on the debate, urging Nigerians to avoid framing the discussion as a competition.
In a poetic social media post, he compared Wizkid’s global fame with Fela’s revolutionary spirit, noting that both have had major impact in their respective arenas.
The resurfaced video highlights Wizkid’s position in the argument, showing that he has always expressed admiration for Fela rather than competing with his legacy.
