Okey Bakassi sparks buzz, blames men for women’s entitlement mindset

Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi has stirred reactions after speaking on how men have influenced the mindset of many women in society.
During an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, he stated that the way men treat women, especially based on beauty, has, over time, shaped certain expectations.
“We men are guilty of what we’ve turned our women into. We’ve conditioned them to believe that once they are beautiful, they can get anything. Slangs like ‘fine girl no suppose dey trek’ make them assume that since it’s that way, we won’t work,” he said.
He further stressed that such beliefs did not come out of nowhere but were built over time through repeated actions and men’s behaviour.
He also noted that chasing a girl should not make her feel superior, adding that if women begin to act based on the idea of “fine girl privilege,” they should not be entirely blamed, as such attitudes are shaped by societal conditioning.
Many mixed reactions have followed. One user wrote, “He actually made a valid point. Na men spoil market.” Another added, “Truth but some people no go gree.”
His comments have continued to spark debate online, as many Nigerians reflect on the role both men and women play in shaping modern relationship dynamics.
