“Oga, you will wash plates” – Lady tells men to provide if they want traditional wife duties

A Nigerian lady has sparked conversation about relationships and financial responsibilities after claiming that many Nigerian men now seek wealthy women who have something substantial to offer.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she argued that some men are increasingly interested in women who can contribute financially to relationships and marriages.

She explained that when a woman earns more than her husband and takes on the responsibility of providing for the household, she should not automatically be expected to handle all the domestic chores.

The lady maintained that financial provision should come with shared responsibilities in the home.

In her words, she said:

“I’ve said it before: most Nigerian men are gold diggers. They’re not going for girls that do not have anything to offer anymore. Nigerian men are actively seeking out women that have things to offer, rich women. Whether they like them or not, they are actively seeking them out and marrying them.

If I have money and my husband doesn’t have, he’s now expecting me to wash plates? Oga, you will wash plates. If you don’t have money, you will wash plates. Because I will not provide, come home, bear children for you, keep your home, and wash plates. So, if you want to avoid all of those things, have money and provide.”

Her comments have drawn attention to the growing debate around gender roles, financial expectations and domestic responsibilities in modern Nigerian relationships.

While some may view household duties as shared responsibilities regardless of income, others believe financial contributions should influence how couples divide responsibilities at home.
