Obidient plans one-million-man march in Abia to mark Peter Obi at 64

The Abia State chapter of the Obidient Movement has announced plans to hold a one-million-man solidarity march on July 19 in celebration of the 64th birthday of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.

In a joint statement released by Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili, a coordinator of the movement, and Mr. Christian Emmanuel, head of its media and publicity sub-committee, the group said the march will take place simultaneously in four major Abia locations: Umuahia, Aba, Ohafia, and Uzuakoli.

The event, scheduled to kick off at 10 a.m., will also feature visits to orphanages, hospitals, and correctional facilities across the state in what the organizers described as acts of empathy in honour of Obi’s values and legacy.

Designated gathering points for the march include:

  • Okpara Square, Umuahia
  • Osisioma Flyover, Aba
  • Practising School, Uzuakoli, Bende
  • Ohafia Central Field, beside Union Bank, Elu Ohafia

The organizers noted that Obi’s support base cuts across political, ethnic, and religious divides, and that the birthday march is an unsolicited show of appreciation for “a selfless man who has relentlessly spoken up for the masses.”

Peter Obi, born on July 19, 1961, shot into national prominence during the 2023 presidential election, where he came a close third, significantly altering Nigeria’s political landscape through what is widely referred to as the “Obi wave.” The former Anambra State Governor was hailed for his campaign built on accountability, youth empowerment, and economic production.
