The National Youth Service Corps has announced that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course will commence nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, across all 37 orientation camps in the country.

The scheme disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, noting that camp registration for all prospective corps members will take place from Wednesday, January 21, to midnight on Friday, January 23, 2026.

According to the statement, the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to hold on Friday, January 23, 2026, while the closing ceremony will take place on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

DG urges corps members to travel safely

The Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, advised prospective corps members to travel safely to their states of deployment and avoid night journeys.

He urged them to adhere strictly to the orientation schedule to ensure a smooth and successful exercise.

The management of the scheme also called on corps members to comply with all camp rules and regulations throughout the three-week programme.

Orientation programme to include drills, SAED, lectures

The NYSC orientation course is the first phase of the one-year mandatory national service, designed to prepare corps members for their primary assignments and community development service.

During the orientation period, corps members undergo paramilitary drills, physical training, lectures on national issues, cultural activities, and skills acquisition training under the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.

Established in 1973 after the Nigerian Civil War, the NYSC scheme aims to promote national unity, integration, and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians of different ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.
