Nuno’s West Ham future in doubt after relegation talks

West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo is set for crunch talks with the club’s hierarchy on Monday following the Hammers’ relegation from the Premier League.
The Portuguese coach is meeting senior officials to assess the financial and sporting consequences of dropping into the Championship, with growing expectations that he could leave the London Stadium after less than a full season in charge.
Nuno avoided confirming his future after West Ham ended their disappointing campaign with a 3-0 victory over Leeds on the final day of the season. The result, however, was not enough to preserve their top-flight status.
The former Wolves, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest boss only arrived at West Ham in September on a three-year contract.

Financial pressure grows after relegation
West Ham chairman David Sullivan and vice-chairman Daniel Kretinsky are expected to lead discussions over the club’s next steps as they prepare for life outside the Premier League for the first time since 2011.
According to club sources, relegation could cost West Ham around £200 million in lost revenue, adding to existing financial concerns.
The Hammers recorded losses of £104 million in accounts released up to May 2025, with another significant deficit expected this season.
Despite showing signs of improvement late in the campaign, West Ham’s poor start and a damaging 10-match winless run between November and January ultimately proved costly.
Bowen avoids transfer speculation
Several key players could now leave the club as West Ham attempt to balance their finances ahead of the Championship season.
Midfielder Mateus Fernandes has reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United, while captain Jarrod Bowen is also being monitored by multiple Premier League clubs.
Bowen, however, refused to discuss his future immediately after Sunday’s win over Leeds.
“It’s still very, very raw,” Bowen said.
“Talking about futures is disrespectful to the club, the fans, everything like that. This club deserves to be in the Premier League. Our aim now is to get this club back into the Premier League.”
