Nuno Espirito Santo appointed West Ham manager after Graham Potter’s dismissal

West Ham United have appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager following the sacking of Graham Potter after a poor start to the Premier League season.

Potter, 50, leaves the club with the Hammers sitting second-bottom of the table, having lost four of their opening five fixtures.

His dismissal makes him the third West Ham manager to depart within a year, after Julen Lopetegui and David Moyes.

Nuno steps in after Forest exit

Nuno, 51, takes charge just two weeks after being dismissed by Nottingham Forest, where he managed only three games this season.

The former Wolves and Tottenham boss will be in the dugout for West Ham’s trip to Everton on Monday, against ex-boss Moyes.

Club statement on Potter’s departure

A club statement said: “West Ham United can confirm that Head Coach Graham Potter has left the club.

Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team’s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.”

Potter’s backroom staff, including assistant Bruno Saltor, coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, and goalkeeper coaches Casper Ankergren and Linus Kandolin, also departed with immediate effect.

Recruitment chief Kyle Macaulay, a long-time ally of Potter, remains in post.

Turbulent exit from Forest

Nuno’s appointment follows reports of tense relations at Forest, where his fallout with the club’s hierarchy and late-season collapse contributed to his exit.
