Number 16 to the window: Man shares emotional moment his US visa was approved

A Nigerian man has gone viral on social media after sharing his thrilling experience of securing a United States visa, describing the tension, fear, and eventual triumph.
The story, shared in a video on X by @broccoliboygreg, captures the emotional rollercoaster faced by many Nigerians applying for a U.S. visa.
Arriving at the Embassy
The young man described the structured environment at the Lagos embassy, explaining how applicants are sorted based on their visa type.
“Guy, nah here my congratulations starts, bro. They tell you, you see, eh? I go Lagos embassy, everybody we dey there, they chop, no, no, no. That Lagos embassy, the left side is for non-immigrant visa people, then the right side is for immigrant visa people, then chair dey for middle, chair dey this side, chair dey that side. You go sit down depending on your case, you understand? And then you get a number.”
Fear of Denial
According to him, the thought of being denied weighed heavily on him, especially as he saw many people denied right in front of him.
“If they deny your visa, everybody knows, bro. Like everybody know that, okay, chai, this guy don chop deny, bro. They can either send your case to Administrative processing or tell you to submit additional documents and from there they’ll deny you guy. So, I just dey mehn. I say God, I beg.”
He added that the common belief that immigrant visas are almost always approved isn’t true.
Interview Experience
When his turn came, the tension reportedly peaked as he met the strict U.S. consular officer.
“Finally, kor reach my turn. I say, bro, as I sit down, 15 people went before me. They not give anybody. Come reach my turn… This man come tell me say I should go and sit down. I’ll call you back in about five minutes.”
Visa Approval
After all the tension, waiting, and anxiety, the moment finally came.
“Chai, bro, see na there my congratulations starts. Everybody there will hear it, that your visa has been approved. Even security officials, they tell me congrats, bro. That excitement, bro, they kor give me white paper. Everybody kor say see, I tap from your grace.”
Reflection
He reflected on the emotional journey, encouraging others going through the U.S. visa process to remain hopeful.
“My life got better. Anybody wey dey see you with that paper, bro, they’re already telling you congratulations. They go wan touch you, bro, because it’s real. It’s not easy, guy. Anybody wey dey file for a USA visa, bro, you know how it is. US strict ooo, guy. It might take a little bit of time. But your visa will get approved non-negotiable.”
