Nottingham Forest draw Liverpool at Anfield as Iraola’s wait for first win continues

Victor Munoz scored a late equaliser as Liverpool fought back twice to earn a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield, leaving Andoni Iraola still searching for his first Premier League victory as Reds boss.

Forest took the lead through Dan Ndoye before Alexander Isak levelled for Liverpool in the second half. Morgan Gibbs-White then restored the visitors’ advantage from the penalty spot, but Munoz’s deflected strike ensured the points were shared.

Forest punish Liverpool’s defensive struggles

Liverpool struggled to cope with Forest’s direct approach in the opening half, with Matz Sels’ long ball helping create the opening goal.

Ndoye capitalised on poor defending to put Oliver Glasner’s side ahead, although Forest could have gone into the interval with a bigger advantage.

Alisson produced a superb save just before half-time to turn Igor Jesus’ effort onto the crossbar and keep Liverpool within touching distance.

Isak levels before Gibbs-White penalty

Liverpool improved after the break and eventually found their equaliser through Isak.

Cody Gakpo, who had impressed on the right despite continued transfer speculation linking him with Tottenham and Manchester City, delivered a low cross across the six-yard box, allowing Isak to tap home.

Forest were handed the opportunity to regain their lead when Alisson was adjudged to have fouled Neco Williams inside the box. Gibbs-White made no mistake from the spot, despite Liverpool’s protests over the decision.

Munoz saves Liverpool again

Iraola responded by introducing changes, with Munoz moving to the right flank shortly after Gakpo was substituted.

The summer signing made an immediate impact, thumping a deflected effort past Sels to make it 2-2 and rescue a point for Liverpool.

The result means Iraola is still waiting for his first league victory with Liverpool after two matches, having also seen his side come from behind to draw 2-2 at Newcastle last weekend.
