Nottingham Forest confirm Sean Dyche as new manager
Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of former Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche as their new head coach on a contract running until the summer of 2027.
The 54-year-old replaces Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed just 18 minutes after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, having failed to win any of his eight games in charge.
Dyche becomes Forest’s third manager of the season, following Postecoglou and Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked after only three matches into the new season.
Dyche returns home with a Point to prove
A former Forest youth player, Dyche returns to the club at a critical moment, with the team sitting 18th in the Premier League after a dismal start, one win in eight matches.
His first assignment will be Thursday’s Europa League clash against Porto, followed by a league trip to Bournemouth on Sunday.
Forest’s leadership team, led by global head of football Edu Gaspar and technical director George Syrianos, oversaw the recruitment process.
Other candidates considered included Roberto Mancini and Marco Silva, but the club opted for Dyche’s blend of discipline, resilience, and Premier League experience.
Club’s statement and expectations
In an official statement, Nottingham Forest described Dyche as bringing “the perfect blend of character, tactical acumen and proven achievement” to steer the club through its next phase.
The statement also emphasized his “deep understanding of Forest’s values and supporters,” given his local ties.
Dyche’s backroom staff will include Ian Woan and Steven Stone, both former Forest players.
Pundits back Dyche’s appointment
BBC pundit Chris Sutton called the decision “sensible,” adding that Dyche’s arrival signals Forest’s priority to secure Premier League survival.
“Dyche has always managed clubs in difficult situations and stabilised them,” Sutton said. “He proved his worth at Burnley and Everton. Forest won’t go down under him, they’ve got too many good players.”
With Dyche now in charge, Forest will be hoping for stability, structure, and a much-needed turnaround before the season slips away.
