“No one ever bought me slippers” – Lady opens up about lifelong struggles

A young woman has shared her painful journey of growing up without maternal care, describing the emotional and financial hardships she has faced.
Speaking exclusively, she highlighted the stark contrast between her life and those fortunate to have a mother’s support.
Life without maternal care
“People who have their mum to care for them are very lucky. I never had that. My mum passed away when I was very young, and since then, life has been extremely difficult,” she said.
She also spoke about the absence of basic gestures of care from her father.“No one has ever bought me a pair of slippers—not my dad, not anyone. Sometimes, I just feel invisible,” she added, her voice trembling with emotion.
Her experience has drawn attention online, resonating with many who have faced parental neglect.
Struggles shaping resilience
The woman recounted previous challenges during her school years, including going to class without proper shoes or clothes.
“I remember days in primary school when I had to walk barefoot because I had nothing. Those memories stay with you forever,” she said. She credits these hardships for shaping her resilience and determination to succeed against the odds.
Her story echoes a wider societal issue in Nigeria, where many children face parental loss or neglect.
