“No crowd, no rice sharing” – Lady sparks reactions after showing simple campaign style in Japan

An abroad-based Nigerian lady has sparked reactions online after sharing a video of a political candidate campaigning in Japan.

In the viral clip, the candidate was seen alone with his bicycle, calmly greeting people and sharing his vision without the usual noise associated with campaigns.

Sharing her observation, she said,

“I just met a political contestant in Japan, campaigning with just his bicycle, his banner and flyers. He’s contesting for a governorship position in the city. You can see how simple the campaign is, just standing here greeting people and talking about his manifesto and vision.”

She noted that the campaign style was notably simple, with no crowd, heavy security presence or extravagant display of wealth.

According to her, the candidate focused on direct engagement with people, which she described as a major difference from what is commonly seen in Nigeria.

“So this is how simple election campaigns can be in Japan. He’s just standing here greeting people, waving and talking to them. There’s no drama, no fanfare, no sharing of rice, you know what I mean. Simplicity at its peak,” she added.

Her video has since triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians comparing campaign styles and reflecting on differences in political systems across countries.

One user wrote, “No convoy, no money sharing, just vibes. This is real leadership.” Another added, “Our own na crowd and food. This can never be my country.”
