Nnadi near Marseille switch after €6m agreement
Super Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi is on the verge of completing a move to Ligue 1 side Marseille from Belgian club Zulte Waregem, following an agreement between both clubs over a €6 million transfer fee.
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that the deal has been finalised at club level, with the 22-year-old already in France to undergo medical examinations.
An official announcement is expected once the medical process is concluded.
Medical underway as deal nears completion
Nnadi arrived in Marseille earlier on Monday and confirmed his readiness to begin a new chapter in French football.
Speaking briefly after landing, the midfielder outlined his mindset ahead of the move.
“I’m happy to be here. It’s my first day in France. I’m here to play football, to fight for the team. This is my ambition here,” Nnadi told La Minute OM.
The move represents a significant step up for the Nigerian international, who is set to join one of France’s most high-profile clubs after just a year in Belgium.
Rise at Zulte Waregem
Nnadi joined Zulte Waregem in January 2024, initially competing in Belgium’s second division. He quickly established himself as a key figure as the club pushed for promotion, playing an influential role in their return to the top flight.
This season, the midfielder has made 19 appearances across all competitions, registering one assist and maintaining a consistent presence in the squad.
His performances attracted interest from abroad, with Marseille moving quickest to secure his signature.
Growing International profile
Nnadi’s development has also translated to the international stage. He was included by head coach Eric Chelle in Nigeria’s final squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Super Eagles finished third.
The midfielder featured during the group stage, gaining valuable tournament experience.
Prior to his senior debut, Nnadi represented Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, further underlining his progression through the national team ranks.
Career path and next step
The Owerri-born midfielder began his football journey at Campos FC before moving to Dubai in 2019 to train with Madenat Alamal Football Academy.
He later joined Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv in 2021, spending over two years there before his move to Zulte Waregem.
With a €6 million transfer to Marseille now imminent, Nnadi is poised to test himself at a higher competitive level, a move that could strengthen both his club career trajectory and his standing within the Super Eagles setup.
