NiMet forecasts three days of haze, sunshine across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day weather forecast, predicting a mix of sunny skies and haze across the country from Wednesday to Friday.

According to NiMet’s outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, the northern region is expected to experience sunny and hazy conditions throughout the forecast period, with dust particles suspended in the air.

Nationwide haze and sunshine expected this week

The agency advised residents, particularly those with asthma or respiratory issues, to take precautions.

Central Nigeria will similarly see sunny and hazy skies, while the southern region is forecast to have sunny intervals with cloud patches.

Isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall are expected in parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states later in the day on Wednesday.

Thunderstorms and precautionary alerts for southern states

NiMet further stated that Thursday will bring sunny and hazy conditions to the northern and central regions, while the south may experience morning thunderstorms in Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states.

Later in the day, parts of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa states are also likely to see thunderstorms.

On Friday, sunny and hazy skies are expected over the northern region, with dust haze developing in the afternoon and evening.

The central region will continue to experience sunny and hazy conditions, while the southern region may have cloudy skies with sunny intervals, particularly over Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states, accompanied by chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rain.

NiMet also urged drivers to exercise caution during rainfall and advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather updates for operational planning. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through regular updates from the agency via www.nimet.gov.ng.
