“Nigerians worship corrupt politicians while crying for change” — Lady says
A lady has come out to sound a warning over the country’s misplaced admiration for corrupt politicians and their families.
According to her, many Nigerians claim they want change, yet continue to praise the very individuals responsible for widespread economic and social suffering.
Nigerians idolising corrupt leaders fuels national suffering
“Every day we wake up in this country and hear Nigerians saying they want change, they want change, they want change. But they are liars, because you cannot want a better country while continuing to worship the people responsible for your suffering,” she said.
She criticised Nigerians for applauding politicians who embezzle billions of naira, flaunt luxury cars, private jets, and designer items, and showcase lavish lifestyles on social media, which are all funded by stolen public funds.
She drew a comparison with Nepal, where public outrage against corruption sparked a revolution.
“There, people saw politicians flaunting stolen wealth and revolted. They burned the parliamentary building, chased corrupt politicians, made them fear for their lives. Meanwhile, in Nigeria, the same corruption happens, and instead of anger, people applaud and worship those responsible,” she said.
She warned that until citizens hold politicians accountable, Nigeria will continue to suffer from corruption, poverty, and a shallow national mindset.
“We cannot demand accountability for those we idolise. We cannot fight oppression while dreaming of being oppressors. Until Nigerians make politicians and their children fear public reprisal, the cycle will continue,” she added.
