Nigerian Stars Who Will Play in the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League

Nigeria remains one of Africa’s biggest exporters of footballing talents. Nigerian football stars play in different leagues across Europe and other parts of the world.

The UEFA Champions League is not an exception. Football fans in Nigeria always pack to the brim in viewing centers across the country during UEFA Champions League matches.

Champions league predictions are some of the most popular topics among Nigerian football fans. As the new season beckons, many Nigerian football fans will hope another Nigerian can win the competition after the likes of John Mikel Obi, Nwankwo Kanu, and Finidi George.

Who are the Nigerian Representatives in the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League Competition?

Victor Osimhen (Napoli)

23-year-old Victor Osimhen will lead the line for Napoli in the UEFA Champions League when the competition starts in September. Osimhen, who made a big money move to Napoli, has had previous Champions League experience with Lille, his former club in France.

Osimhen’s goal-scoring prowess is not under any doubt, and Napoli will count on him to help them win against Europe’s top sides in the Champions League.

Calvin Bassey

The Nigerian defender recently switched to Ajax Amsterdam from Rangers of Scotland. Bassey, who lost out on the Europa League title last season, will be delighted to play at the top level amongst Europe’s top players in the new season. Bassey can play as a center back, and a left back for Ajax Amsterdam.

Zaidu Sanusi

Zaidu Sanusi is a tactically disciplined player plying his trade with former Champions League winners Porto in Portugal. The Nigerian left-back plays in defense for the Portuguese giants alongside legendary Portuguese defender Pepe. Sanusi has featured in the UEFA Champions League for Porto in the last two seasons with 16 appearances and one goal.

Although Porto crashed out to the Europa League last season, Zaidu and his teammates will be determined to avoid a repeat of their poor performance in last season’s UEFA Champions League competition.

Nigeria has not had any UEFA Champions League winners since Mikel Obi won it with Chelsea in 2012. Osimhen, Bassey, and Sanusi have an incredible chance of winning the competition and bringing smiles to the faces of Nigerians back home.

Nigerian football may be facing many challenges right now. But the brilliant performances of Nigerian stars for the club sides keep hope alive in the hearts of many Nigerian football fans.
