Nigeria held by Jordan in Antalya friendly

Nigeria played out a 2-2 draw with Jordan in an international friendly in Antalya on Tuesday, as Eric Chelle’s side failed to hold on to their lead.

Despite making several changes from the team that defeated Iran, Nigeria delivered a competitive performance but were ultimately pegged back in the second half.

Fernandez debut goal, Simon shines

Jordan took the lead in the 17th minute through Mousa Tamari, who finished a well-worked set-piece with a long-range strike.

Nigeria responded quickly, with Moses Simon levelling in the 25th minute after reacting to a loose ball from Ademola Lookman’s blocked effort. The winger controlled well before firing home a composed finish.

The Super Eagles took the lead before half-time when Emmanuel Fernandez scored on his full debut. A cross from Bright Osayi-Samuel was not cleared, allowing the defender to finish calmly at the back post in the 41st minute.

Jordan fight back as Nigeria fade

Chelle introduced changes after the break, including the arrivals of Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi, as Nigeria looked to maintain control.

However, Jordan found a way back into the contest in the 77th minute when substitute Mohammad Al Daoud finished from close range following a precise cross from Noor Al-Rawabdeh.

Nigeria pushed for a late winner, with Samuel Chukwueze introduced, but failed to break down a disciplined Jordan defence.

The match ended on a sour note for Nigeria as Iwobi was sent off late for misconduct, capping a frustrating finish for the Super Eagles.

The result offers mixed signals for Chelle’s side, who showed attacking quality but lacked control in key moments, while Jordan will take confidence ahead of their World Cup campaign.
