Newcastle seal £55m deal for Wissa after Liverpool’s record deal for Isak

Newcastle United have reached a verbal agreement to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford in a £55 million deal, as the club move to replace Alexander Isak, who is set for Liverpool.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the 28-year-old forward will become the Magpies’ latest attacking addition, joining recent record signing Nick Woltemade.

The double swoop is designed to strengthen Eddie Howe’s front line following Isak’s decision to force through a move and Callum Wilson’s release last season.
Wissa, who also pushed for a move throughout the summer, escalated matters over the weekend with a public statement accusing Brentford of blocking his exit.
With Liverpool closing in on a record-breaking deal for Isak, Newcastle have been able to finalise Wissa’s switch, which is expected to be completed once the DR Congo international undergoes a medical in the North East.
