Newcastle intensify move for Sesko as Brentford stall Wissa exit

Newcastle United have speed up efforts to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko following growing uncertainty surrounding Alexander Isak’s future, while facing resistance in their pursuit of Brentford forward Yoane Wissa.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Newcastle have opened discussions with Sesko’s representatives, although no verbal agreement has been reached with the 22-year-old.

The Slovenian international is reportedly available for around €80 million (£69.5m).

In a parallel move, the Magpies have identified Wissa as another potential attacking reinforcement.

However, The i reports that Brentford will not sanction a sale unless a suitable replacement is secured.

The club has earmarked Celtic’s Daizen Maeda as a possible successor, but negotiations remain unresolved.

Newcastle’s transfer activity comes on the heels of reports linking Isak with a high-profile switch to Liverpool.

The Swedish striker, valued at £150 million, is said to have expressed a desire to leave this summer, prompting the Tyneside club to explore alternatives.

Wissa, who netted 19 goals last season, is rated at approximately £30 million, while Sesko scored 21 goals in all competitions.

Brentford are already managing the loss of Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United and are reluctant to weaken their attack further.

Newcastle’s next moves will likely hinge on the resolution of Isak’s future, with potential signings contingent on his departure.
