New Zealand Lists 1 Country Whose Citizens Can Visit Without a Visa or NZeTA
The New Zealand Immigration Authority has certified that one country’s citizens and permanent residents can enter New Zealand without a visa or a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA).
The remainder of the world’s criteria varies. Most nationalities must apply for a normal visa before visiting New Zealand.

Travelers from approved visa waiver nations, on the other hand, fall somewhere in the middle: they do not require a complete visa, but they must obtain a NZeTA prior to departure.
New Zealand without visa and NZeTA requirement
According to Immigration New Zealand, Australia and its citizens, as well as permanent residents traveling on an Australian passport, are exempt from any pre-travel authorization procedures while entering New Zealand.
These two categories do not require a visa application or NZeTA to visit. The NZeTA is an electronic travel authorization linked to a traveler’s passport.
While it does not have the same weight as a standard visa, it is a required pre-travel step for visa waiver country nationals and must be obtained prior to boarding.
Australia’s unique status
Australia’s exemption from both standards places it in a category all its own. No other countries on the Immigration New Zealand list has the same level of access, hence Australia is the only one whose passport holders and permanent residents can enter New Zealand without prior authorization.
The distinction is particularly important for African travelers. Citizens of Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa must apply for a complete visa before entering New Zealand.
