Netflix exploring Premier League rights bid

The UK sports broadcasting industry is shifting rapidly as major players, including Netflix reposition ahead of new rights cycles.
With TNT Sports set to lose Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League coverage from 2027, the market is opening up for fresh competition.
TalkSPORT reports Paramount+ and Amazon have already secured key European packages, while Sky Sports will take over the Europa and Conference League rights.

Streaming giant eyes English top-flight exposure
Netflix is now being linked with a potential move for Premier League rights after missing out on European football packages.
According to The Times, the platform recently tabled bids for global UEFA Super Cup rights and for the Champions League in Germany for the 2027-2031 cycle.
Their increased interest in live sports is viewed as a strategic shift toward securing premium global content.
Festive fixtures could be first target
Industry analysts suggest Netflix may initially pursue a limited package, particularly the Premier League’s festive fixtures, to test the waters and strengthen its competitive positioning against established broadcasters such as Sky Sports and TNT.
A source told The Times that Netflix’s involvement alone signals a major development:
“The important thing for football, both European-wide and domestic leagues, is that Netflix has shown for the first time that it is interested in buying rights. With Paramount entering the market, it means more competition for rights.”
Premier League rights remain the ultimate prize
The Premier League continues to be viewed as the world’s most valuable domestic league, making it an obvious long-term target for both Netflix and Paramount.
Increased competition is expected to drive up rights value and reshape the UK broadcasting industry over the next cycle.
