Napoli threaten disciplinary action as Lukaku fails to report to training after warning

Napoli have confirmed that Romelu Lukaku failed to report for training on Tuesday, with the club now preparing disciplinary measures against the Belgian striker.
In an official statement, the Serie A side disclosed that Lukaku did not respond to a call-up ahead of the resumption of team activities following the international break.
“Napoli announce that Romelu Lukaku did not respond to today’s call-up ahead of the resumption of training,” the club said.
“The club reserves the right to evaluate the adoption of appropriate disciplinary measures as well as the continuation of the player’s participation in the team on an indefinite basis.”

Club considers sanctions
Napoli’s position signals a firm stance, with internal discussions already underway regarding potential sanctions.
Initial reports suggested the striker could be frozen out of the squad, but the club’s wording leaves room for broader action.
Legal representatives are now assessing the situation, with all options reportedly under consideration depending on the terms of Lukaku’s contract. These could range from internal disciplinary steps to more severe outcomes if the situation escalates.
The development follows Lukaku’s decision to remain in Belgium after withdrawing from international duty due to fitness concerns. Rather than returning to Naples, the forward opted to continue his recovery independently.
Uncertainty over Lukaku’s future
The situation adds further tension to what has already been a difficult season for the striker. Injuries have limited his impact, and reducing his availability for selection.
The club are scheduled to return to action on April 6 against AC Milan, a key fixture that could influence their position in the standings.
Whether Lukaku will be involved remains unclear, with his immediate future at the club now subject to internal review.
