Naira to Dollar exchange rate today, Thursday, April 16, 2026

The Nigerian Naira recorded a mild gain against the United States Dollar on Thursday morning, April 16, 2026, trading near N1,344 per Dollar as liquidity in the foreign exchange market showed signs of improvement.

At the official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market window, the local currency started the day stronger than previous sessions.

Early trades placed the Naira within a tight range, briefly rising to about N1,343.83 before stabilising around N1,344.

The upward movement is largely linked to better dollar availability and continued actions by the Central Bank of Nigeria to address pending foreign exchange requests.

Meanwhile, the parallel market reflected a softer tone compared to earlier in the week. In cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, exchange rates for the Dollar were quoted between N1,455 and N1,480.

Although this segment still attracts higher demand due to retail needs, the difference between official and unofficial rates appears to be reducing.

Market watchers note that confidence is gradually returning, supported by policy adjustments designed to steady the Naira.

Even so, they point out that ongoing demand for foreign currency—particularly for travel, schooling abroad, and imports—remains a key factor that could affect price movements.

Trading activity stayed calm as of 7:00 AM WAT, with investors and dealers closely watching later sessions for clearer indications of the Naira’s next direction.
