“My sister doesn’t owe rent, I don’t know why she’s doing this” — 81-year-old landlady assault tenant
A heated altercation between a female tenant and her 81-year-old landlady has drawn attention online after a video of the incident surfaced, showing the elderly woman allegedly attacking the younger tenant during a dispute at a residential compound.
Dispute reportedly followed quit notice
According to accounts from a neighbour and the tenant’s sister, the landlady had issued the tenant a quit notice approximately two months earlier.
The tenant was said to be in the process of moving out when the confrontation occurred.
Witnesses claimed the elderly landlady blocked the tenant from leaving the premises, despite reports that the woman was not owing any rent.
The tenant’s sister said, “My sister doesn’t owe any rent, so I don’t know why she’s doing this. She has been violent to her for the past two years, but my sister cannot do anything to her because she is 81 years old.”
Witnesses describe violent confrontation
Observers at the scene alleged that the elderly woman repeatedly struck and even bit the tenant during the struggle, while the younger woman attempted to remain calm and avoid retaliation.
The sister added, “She kept on biting her and dragging her clothes. She prays and calls ‘Jesus, Jesus’, but she’s not behaving normally.”
Incidents involving landlord-tenant disputes escalating into physical confrontations have been reported in several parts of Nigeria in recent years, often raising concerns about tenancy rights, mental health, and the safety of residents in shared compounds.
