According to a now-viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she argued that a husband should be solely responsible for providing for the family, while a wife’s earnings remain exclusively hers.

In her words, she said:

“My husband cannot say I should come and pay school fees with him. It’s not done. My money is my money. His money is for all of us. He has to provide everything.”

She explained that her position is based on her understanding of Islamic teachings, maintaining that a man is expected to cater for his family’s needs regardless of his wife’s financial status.

The woman further argued that couples should marry within similar social and economic backgrounds to avoid difficulties adjusting to a different lifestyle after marriage.

“You can’t pick a child from Banana Island and take her to Agege. How will she survive? You can’t pick a child that has grown up with maids and chefs and everybody around, then ask her to come and do her laundry by herself,” she added.

Her comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that a husband should bear the primary responsibility of providing for the household, while others insisted that marriage should be a partnership involving shared responsibilities.

The video continues to trend on social media as Nigerians debate gender roles, financial obligations, and expectations in marriage.
