“My eyes first blur” – Lady cries out as N110k disappears from her account over COVID-19 loan she thought was ‘free’

A Nigerian lady has stirred reactions online after raising alarm over unexpected deductions from her bank accounts years after receiving a COVID-19 intervention loan of N250,000.

The young woman, identified as Maria-Goretti Jiwuaku, shared her experience on Facebook, saying she initially believed the money was a government empowerment grant and not a loan that required repayment.

How She Received The COVID-19 Funds

Maria explained that she collected the money during the pandemic under what she described as the “Hope Uzodinma 250k COVID-19 Empowerment,” referencing Hope Uzodinma.

According to her, she was made to understand at the time that the funds were a giveaway meant to support citizens through the economic hardship caused by COVID-19.

First Debit Alert Came Years Later

She revealed that her shock began about three years after receiving the money when N110,000 was deducted from the bank account she used to collect the loan.

Maria said she stopped using the account afterward, thinking the deductions had ended.

Fresh Deductions From Multiple Accounts

However, she recently noticed new debit alerts, this time from different bank accounts linked to her name.

In her words: “Omo if you see anywhere they are sharing free money in Nigeria, no involve me oh.

I collected the Hope Uzodinma 250k COVID 19 Empowerment.
They said it was a dash oh.

3 years back they withdrew 110k from the particular account I used to collect the money.
I stopped using the account.

I just said let me sleep now and saw debits, my eyes first blur.

The debits were from my different accounts which means they have access to all my accounts.

Please how do I check the balance I have to pay?
Does the money have interest?

God abeg oh”
