Mum destroys son’s six-year virtual project after C in maths, gets 3 million comments online
A mother has sparked widespread backlash after deleting her 13-year-old son’s Minecraft world as punishment for getting a C in maths.
According to the boy’s aunt, the teenager had spent six years building the virtual world, starting when he was seven. The project reportedly included digital cities, redstone engineering, monuments and creations made alongside his friends.

The situation reportedly escalated after the mother logged onto his computer and permanently deleted the Minecraft world.
Teenager reportedly refuses to speak to mother
The aunt said her nephew was left devastated after discovering that years of his work had been erased.
She said the boy broke down crying, but his mother dismissed his reaction, telling him, “It’s just a blocky video game, grow up.”
The aunt argued that the teenager had lost more than a game, describing the Minecraft world as six years of creativity, memories and personal effort.
She said the incident also appeared to have damaged the boy’s trust in his mother, particularly because the deletion was carried out over a school grade.
Mother faces backlash after seeking advice online
The mother reportedly later turned to Facebook for advice on how to make her son “see reason“.
According to the aunt, the post attracted about three million comments within three hours, with commenters overwhelmingly criticising the punishment and warning about its possible impact on their relationship.
The incident has since fuelled wider discussions about parenting, digital creations and whether deleting something meaningful to a child can have consequences beyond the immediate punishment.
