Mourinho breaks silence on Real Madrid links, reveals best club he managed

José Mourinho has cooled speculation over a potential return to Real Madrid, insisting his immediate priority remains with Benfica.
The Portuguese coach has been linked with replacing Álvaro Arbeloa at the Santiago Bernabéu amid growing uncertainty over the club’s managerial position.
However, Mourinho dismissed suggestions of an imminent move, focusing instead on his current objectives.
Mourinho distances himself from Madrid speculation
Speaking amid increasing reports of interest from Madrid president Florentino Pérez, Mourinho made it clear that his attention is fixed on Benfica’s ambitions.

“My next target is to bring Benfica back to the Champions League,” he said.
The response signals a strategic attempt to shut down immediate exit talk, despite reports indicating a potential break clause in his contract.
Madrid are understood to be assessing multiple candidates as they consider long-term options following inconsistent results under Arbeloa.
Roma experience stands out in career
While avoiding direct engagement with the Madrid rumours, Mourinho reflected on his managerial journey and highlighted his time at AS Roma as the most fulfilling.
“For me, it’s been the best place in my career. I’ve never felt such an incredible environment around a football team. The Olimpico was always full,” he said.
Mourinho led Roma to the UEFA Europa Conference League title in 2022 and the Europa League final in 2023, establishing a strong connection with supporters.
“Not even when I won the Champions League did I see scenes like those,” he added.
Madrid continue search for elite manager
Despite Mourinho’s stance, pressure continues to build at Madrid, with alternative candidates including Mauricio Pochettino and Lionel Scaloni reportedly under consideration.
A return for Mourinho would mark his first spell at the club since 2010-2013, a period that delivered major domestic honours but also intense rivalry with Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona.
