Monday Okpebholo is a Nigerian businessman and politician who has been the governor of Edo State since November 12, 2024. From 2023 to 2024, he served as senator for the Edo Central senatorial district.

Okpebholo earned a degree in business administration from the University of Abuja and completed his Master’s thesis in Governance and International Relations at the same university.

Career

Okpebholo ran for the Senate position representing Edo Central Senatorial District under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was elected on February 25, 2023.

On June 13, 2023, he was inaugurated as a senator in Nigeria’s 10th National Assembly, representing the Edo Central Senatorial District. In February 2024, he won the Edo State APC gubernatorial primaries.

Later in 2024, Okpebholo was summoned by a magistrates’ court on charges of faking his date of birth, which was shown as August 1, 1977, on his voter registration card. It was also alleged that his West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate, as a student, listed his birth date as August 29, 1972.

Okpebholo was proclaimed the winner of the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and took office as governor of Edo State.

On April 2, 2025, the Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal confirmed his victory in the gubernatorial election of September 2024.
