MLS: Messi leads Inter Miami to first-ever Eastern Conference final

Lionel Messi delivered another masterclass as Inter Miami secured a historic berth in the MLS Eastern Conference final with a dominant win over Cincinnati.
The Argentine opened the scoring with a first-half header and added three assists in a performance Javier Mascherano described as “practically perfect.”
Miami produce statement performance
Messi’s opener, his sixth goal in four post-season games, set the tone for a clinical Miami performance.
The forward then turned provider, setting up Mateo Silvetti and twice releasing Tadeo Allende with pinpoint passes.

His 12 goal contributions in the playoffs set a new MLS record.
Head coach Mascherano praised the team’s mentality and execution. “I’m proud of how the team played on a very difficult pitch against a very difficult opponent,” he said.
“The players showed incredible character and played a practically perfect match.”
Messi central to Miami’s rise
Mascherano highlighted Messi’s all-round influence, noting his work off the ball and leadership in key moments.
“We know what Leo is capable of, he proves it every weekend,” he added.
The first half at TQL Stadium was evenly balanced until Messi initiated the sequence leading to his own goal, exchanging passes with Silvetti before heading home.
The 19-year-old repaid that faith by finishing calmly for Miami’s second, while Allende benefitted from two exquisite through balls from Messi to seal the victory.
Miami eye MLS cup final
Inter Miami, who finished third in the Eastern Conference, now await the winner of Philadelphia vs New York City for a place in the MLS Cup final.
The club sits just one step away from its first-ever league title match, powered by Messi’s post-season brilliance.
