Mikel Arteta commits future to Arsenal until 2030

Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract with Premier League champions Arsenal, keeping him at the club until 2030 as he looks to build on the success of his first six years in charge.

The 44-year-old’s previous agreement was due to expire at the end of the season, but Arsenal have now secured the Spaniard’s long-term future after reaching an agreement over an improved deal.

Arteta joined Arsenal in December 2019 and could now remain at the club for more than a decade as he targets further trophies with the Gunners.

Arteta targets more success at Arsenal

Arteta said he feels privileged to continue his relationship with Arsenal and believes the club’s biggest achievements could still be ahead.

“This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel, and I have a great sense of privilege that our journey together will continue,” Arteta said.

“We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”

The Spaniard has guided Arsenal to a Premier League title and an FA Cup during his tenure, while the club also came within a penalty kick of winning their first Champions League trophy after losing to Paris St-Germain in May.

That defeat was a major disappointment, but it has also strengthened Arsenal’s determination to compete for the biggest honours in Europe.

Kroenke family backs Arteta’s long-term vision

Co-chairmen Stan and Josh Kroenke said Arteta understands the club’s identity and has played a key role in its transformation since returning in 2019.

“We share a special bond with Mikel. We are so proud of everything we have achieved since he returned to the club in 2019,” they said.

“He has a deep understanding of Arsenal’s values and carries them in his heart. He knows what this club means to everyone connected to it and is committed to building on everything we have achieved together.”

Arteta’s new deal had been widely expected after he repeatedly made clear his desire to remain at Arsenal beyond the end of the campaign.

The Premier League title last season ended a 20-year wait for the club and marked a significant milestone in Arteta’s project.
