Mbappe wins legal battle sgainst PSG over unpaid wages

Kylian Mbappe has secured a major legal victory in his dispute with Paris Saint-Germain after a French court ruled in his favour over unpaid salaries and bonuses following his departure from the club.
The Real Madrid forward and PSG have been locked in a legal battle since Mbappe left the Ligue 1 champions on a free transfer in 2024, with both parties filing substantial claims against each other.
Court orders PSG to pay €61m
On Tuesday, the Preud’homme Court ruled that PSG must pay Mbappe €61 million in unpaid wages and bonuses covering April, May and June 2024, according to reports from Diario AS. Mbappe had argued that the club failed to honour the final months of his contract.
PSG’s counter-claim, which alleged Mbappe breached a verbal agreement to forgo money if he left on a free transfer and sought €440 million in damages, was dismissed by the court.

Major claims from both sides rejected
While Mbappe initially sought €260 million in damages and PSG pursued a far larger sum, the court rejected the broader damage claims from both parties.
The ruling limits Mbappe’s win strictly to unpaid earnings rather than compensation for bad faith or contractual harm.
Mbappe had also accused PSG of harassment, citing his exclusion from first-team training in the summer of 2023 after refusing to sign a new contract. That aspect of the case did not result in additional damages at this stage.
PSG set to appeal ruling
Despite the setback, the legal dispute is not over. PSG are expected to appeal the decision and may file further action against Mbappe, ensuring the standoff between club and former star continues.
Although Mbappe has publicly maintained that PSG remains close to his heart as his boyhood club, the case proves a fractured relationship with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who has been openly critical since the forward chose not to renew his contract.
