Mason Greenwood has made his home debut for Getafe in their 3-2 victory over Osasuna, marking his first match in 20 months.

Greenwood joined the club on loan from Manchester United and came off the bench in the 77th minute with the score tied at 2-2.

According to reports, Getafe fans gave him a warm welcome as he stepped on the pitch, although the stadium appeared to be half-empty at the time.

However, some Osasuna fans reportedly jeered Greenwood and chanted provocative slogans. The debut marked the resumption of professionalism for the young winger, who had faced a lengthy absence.

Greenwood’s last competitive game was for Manchester United against West Ham in January 2022.

He was subsequently suspended by the club after being arrested on suspicion of several charges, including rape, controlling and coercive behavior, as well as assault leading to actual bodily harm.

However, in February this year, all criminal charges against him were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence.

Despite the legal relief, Greenwood’s situation at Manchester United remained uncertain.

The club conducted an internal investigation, and in August, they mutually agreed with the player that it would be best for him to continue his career away from Old Trafford. This led to Greenwood’s loan move to Getafe.

During his debut appearance, Greenwood’s performance contributed to Getafe’s victory. He won two quick corners, with the second leading to Nemanja Maksimovic’s header and the team taking a 3-2 win.
