“Marriage wey my cousin spent over N60m on last year don scatter” — Man reveals
A Nigerian man’s shocking account of his cousin’s failed marriage has stirred heated reactions on social media, after he claimed the union collapsed barely a year after an extravagant wedding said to have cost over ₦60 million.
The story, shared on X (formerly Twitter), has since sparked debate about marriage, domestic violence allegations, and the risks of cross-border relationships.
Allegations and Career Fallout
In his post, the man wrote, “Marriage when my cousin spend more than 60 million last year April don scatter.”
He went further to allege, “Apparently, the girl even scratched herself with stuff and reported to the police that he abused her.”
According to him, the situation escalated quickly in the United States, where his cousin worked as a nurse anaesthetist.
“My cousin who is a nurse anesthetist, making over $300k has been fired for domestic violence and is now driving Uber in Florida,” he added.
While the claims remain unverified, the post has drawn strong and divided opinions online, with many questioning the full details behind the incident.
Public Reactions
Reacting to the story, Ada expressed doubt about the one-sided narrative.
“Ok he spent 60m for his wedding and knowing how the average Nigerian male believes that they own their wives because of the money spent during marriage, then there is more to this story.
“Moreover, a medical practitioner can’t just lose their licence like that without proper investigation. The story no clear.”
Sosa shared a broader reflection on relationships, writing, “This marriage thing is just pure luck, today you may think you know them. Tmrw they turn into a total opposite of what you know.
“You would doubt if it was d same person or somebody swapped body with them and kept same face. Experience will teach u to always protect urself first.”
Another user, Oba_lowkey, reacted with concern about men’s behaviour.
“Fear my gender oooo… I repeat, FEAR my gender ooooooo….. Àlákọbá ló pọ̀ nínú wa oooo… There are many dangerous/wicked ones among us.”
Cynthia questioned the reported professional consequences.
“Omo!!! Wait, fired as per his License withdrawn?? God abeg! Why go that extent to punish him, what exactly happened?”
Bolaji described the situation as heartbreaking.
“Haaa this is wickedness. I won’t be surprised if the guy was the one that brought her to the US. You destroy a bread winner of a family because you want divorce him.”
Emma, however, used the story to caution against long-distance relationships.
“That’s why I always say, once you cross over without a stable relationship here in naija find girls there and marry cos dating across borders will make it impossible to detect red flags. She go just de form good wife material make she cross over.”
