Manchester United prepare talks with Michael Carrick

Manchester United are preparing to open formal discussions with Michael Carrick over becoming the club’s permanent manager following his impressive spell as interim coach.

An executive committee meeting scheduled for this week is expected to approve Carrick as the leading candidate to replace Ruben Amorim on a full-time basis.

However, sources close to the club insist no final decision has been made, with United also understood to have considered a possible move for Unai Emery of Aston Villa.

Carrick has emerged as the frontrunner after leading United back into the Champions League during his caretaker spell at Old Trafford.

Carrick delivers strong results

United secured qualification for Europe’s top club competition after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Liverpool.

The win marked Carrick’s 10th victory in 14 league matches since taking temporary charge.

Overall, the former United midfielder has recorded 10 wins, three draws and only two defeats from 15 Premier League games.

No side in the division has collected more points than United during that period, with rivals Manchester City sitting just behind them.

Carrick’s calm approach and tactical adjustments have also drawn praise from players and supporters following a difficult period under Amorim.

Fernandes, Mainoo revived under interim boss

One of the biggest improvements has come from club captain Bruno Fernandes, who has returned to top form under Carrick.

Fernandes has produced 12 assists in his last 15 league appearances and recently won the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Footballer of the Year award, becoming the first United player since Wayne Rooney in 2010 to claim the honour.

Young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has also re-established himself in the team after struggling for opportunities earlier in the season.

The academy graduate has started almost every game under Carrick and recently signed a new long-term contract with the club.
