Manchester United move to hijack Arsenal’s deal for Viktor Gyökeres

Manchester United are making a late push to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres, with reports suggesting the club is close to meeting the Portuguese side’s €70 million asking price.

This could potentially hijack Arsenal’s long-standing interest in the Swedish forward.

Gyökeres has made it clear he wants to leave Sporting this summer and has skipped pre-season activities to force a move to the Premier League.

Arsenal have been in talks for weeks, offering €63.5 million upfront with the rest in performance-related bonuses.

However, the Gunners are yet to reach an agreement with Sporting.

According to SIC, United are ready to meet the full valuation in a bid to beat Arsenal to the 27-year-old’s signature.

But transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports there has been no change in Gyökeres’ stance, as his priority remains a move to Arsenal, and he and his agent remain aligned on that goal.

Meanwhile, Maisfutebol reports emotional strain on the player’s family, with his father reportedly breaking down in frustration over delays in finalising the move.

If Manchester United succeed, it would be a major setback for Arsenal, who have identified Gyökeres as a key target to strengthen their attack ahead of the new season.

Despite United’s late approach, Arsenal are still seen as the frontrunners, pending any formal breakthrough from Old Trafford.
