Manchester City confirm £46.3m Reijnders deal, take summer spending to £116m

Manchester City have announced the signing of Netherlands international Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan in a deal worth £46.3 million.
The move marks their fourth acquisition of the summer transfer window.
Reijnders, 26, joins on a five-year contract following an outstanding 2024/25 campaign that earned him the Serie A Midfielder of the Year award.
He registered a career-best 15 goals and added five assists in 54 appearances across all competitions.
“I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City,” Reijnders said via the club’s website. “City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players, and outstanding facilities. Playing in the Premier League is a dream come true.”
The midfielder arrives in time to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins this weekend, as City aim to bounce back from a disappointing season.
After four consecutive Premier League titles, Pep Guardiola’s side finished third behind Liverpool and Arsenal in 2024/25 and endured early exits in the Champions League and Carabao Cup, along with an FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace.
City have now spent £116 million this summer alone, having earlier secured Rayan Aït-Nouri (£36.3m, Wolves), Rayan Cherki (£34m, Lyon), and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea for a nominal fee.
In total, City’s 2025 calendar year outlay has reached £293.1 million, more than double that of their closest spending rivals, Chelsea (£125.7m).
This includes a £176.5m winter spend featuring high-profile deals for Omar Marmoush (£63.2m), Nico Gonzalez (£50m), Abdukodir Khusanov (£33.7m) and Vitor Reis (£29.6m).
