Man shares how helping his mother caused him to lose his girlfriend

A man abruptly ends a relationship with a girlfriend he almost married due to her reaction when he prioritized his mother’s financial needs over hers.

Sharing his experience on X (formerly Twitter), user @afrisagacity explained that the incident occurred in December 2021 when both his girlfriend and his mother needed financial assistance at the same time.

According to his post, he gave his mother the full amount she requested while sending only a fraction to his girlfriend, explaining that he couldn’t fulfil her request due to helping his mum. However, his girlfriend became upset, leading to the end of their relationship.

“Had a lady I almost married in 2021. In December, she needed money for a stuff. My mum needed money too. I sent my mum the full amount she needed but sent a fraction to my girl. I told her I couldn’t complete cos I sent mum money and she flared up. That ended the relationship,” he wrote.

Despite the breakup, the man revealed that his mother still holds the ex-girlfriend in high regard, unaware of the true reason behind the split.

“Funny thing, she’s my mum’s favorite of all my Exs that I introduced to her. Mum still angry I didn’t marry her. I just can’t tell my mum what went down,” he added.

He added that he prefers to keep the details from his mother to avoid souring her perception of the ex-girlfriend.

“If I do, she’ll switch love to hate and praises to curses. Make e just lie low like that,” she said.

The post sparked a range of reactions online, with many users debating whether his decision was justified or if the girlfriend’s reaction was understandable.
