Man praises Aba’s infrastructure, reflects on past struggles

Victor Olamide, a Nigerian man who lives in Aba, Abia State, has shared his emotional reaction to the city’s improved infrastructure.

Speaking about his experience, Olamide recalled his time as a corper in 2018, when he was posted around the area.

He described how heavy rains would make walking on the roads difficult, with waterlogged streets and people struggling to navigate gutters.

Olamide recalls experience

He said that walking on Aba’s current main roads during heavy rain brought him to tears, noting that the streets were well-drained, and his slippers remained dry as he moved about.

Olamide emphasized that the contrast to previous administrations was stark, and that proper governance had made everyday life easier for residents.

Olamide added that many Nigerians outside Aba might not grasp the significance of these improvements, as they have grown accustomed to mediocrity, but those who have lived or visited the city before would understand the transformative impact of good governance.

He said …

“You see eh, in Abia State, if you are not in Abia State, or you’ve not been here, and you hear thay Alex Oti is doing this, is doing that, you’ll be happy you are seeing videos and pictures. You’ll be very happy. But bro, you cannot understand the gravity.

I came to Abia 2018 as a corper, and I was posted to around Uboi side. Like, Jesus, rain fell yesterday, very heavy rain. And, I was walking, Like, bro, I was already feeling teary-eyed. Like, during dey beat me normal, I wan go carry car, so I will go pick my wife and my kid. And I was already getting teary-eyed. Like, you mean I canwalk? I can walk on road? Like, for you people outside, you don’t understand.

You cannot really understand what I’m trying to say. I was walking on main road. In heavy rain. Like, my leg dey touch main road. There was no black mysterious water that was flowing. People were not entering gutter mistakenly.

And it now goes to show that what are other people actually doing? Like this is governance.

I waka from my shop, go inside my car day, bro, my slippers no even dey covered with water inside heavy rain. It might look like a normal thing though. Maybe because we Nigerians are used to mediocrity and all that. But if you’ve stayed in Aba, you’ve lived in Aba, you’ve visited Aba during the previous government or whatever, or shams that call themselves governors, you will understand what I’m trying to say…”
