Man explains why many Nigerians are joining the U.S. Army

A social media user, Augustus, known as “King of Truth,” has shared insights into why an increasing number of Nigerians are enlisting in the United States Army.
In a post on X, he explained that while many Americans may view joining the military as less appealing, the situation is different for immigrants.
According to him, individuals with a Green Card are eligible to enlist and can benefit from incentives such as a $50,000 signing bonus.
He further noted that enlistees may apply for U.S. citizenship after a short period of service and also have access to educational benefits, including funded college opportunities.
Additionally, he pointed out that only a small percentage of personnel are involved in active combat roles, with many serving in support positions such as logistics, engineering, and other technical fields.

“To Most Americans, joining US Army is a waste and not worth it (same way most Nigerians see joining Nigerian Army).
But the US is an immigrant nation, so right from Day 1, ANYBODY living in America can join its military. So now as long as you have Green Card and you can join US Army. You’d get $50K signing bonus and can apply for citizenship after 6 months.
What makes it sweet is that the Army would pay for your college if you want to go to school and can still leave after 4-6 years. Best of all, only 15% of the Army actually sees combat. These guys dancing can be logistics, engineers or even cooks.”
