Man City ready new record deal to retain Rodri

Manchester City are set to offer midfield stalwart Rodri a bumper new contract that would make him the club’s second-highest earner after Erling Haaland.

This move comes as part of a broader effort to fend off interest from Real Madrid, who remain keen on signing the Spaniard.

According to Fabrizio Romano, City plan to extend Rodri’s contract until 2029.

Despite missing a large chunk of the 2024–25 season due to an ACL injury, Rodri returned late in the campaign and featured at the Club World Cup.

His resilience and leadership have reportedly strengthened his case for a future captaincy role at the Etihad.

City are keen to avoid the risk of Rodri entering the final two years of his current deal without a clear commitment, especially with Real Madrid monitoring closely.

Club executives see him not just as a midfield anchor, but also as a generational leader.

Though Madrid may revisit their interest by 2026, City believe the proposed deal, financially and symbolically, will persuade the 29-year-old to stay. The final decision now rests with Rodri.
