Man City crash out of Champions League as Real Madrid punish 10-man side

Manchester City have been eliminated from the UEFA Champions League after a damaging red card to Bernardo Silva paved the way for Real Madrid to seal another knockout victory.

Already trailing 3-0 from the first leg, City’s hopes of a comeback were effectively extinguished as Real Madrid capitalised on their numerical advantage to progress comfortably.

Bernardo Silva red card proves decisive

City started fast, but the turning point came when Silva handled a goal-bound effort from Vinicius Junior on the line.

Following a VAR review overseen by referee Clement Turpin, Silva was shown a straight red card and a penalty was awarded.

Vinicius stepped up and converted confidently, sending Gianluigi Donnarumma the wrong way to extend Real Madrid’s control of the tie.

City push but Courtois stands firm

Despite the setback, City continued to create chances, but were repeatedly denied by Thibaut Courtois.

Efforts from Rayan Cherki and Rodri were kept out, while Erling Haaland also saw a close-range attempt saved.

Haaland eventually found the net just before half-time, offering brief hope to the home side.

Vinicius seals Real Madrid progress

Any chance of a second-half comeback failed to materialise as Real Madrid managed the game well.

Vinicius struck again in stoppage time to complete his brace and underline Madrid’s dominance over the two legs.
