Man alleges harassment by digital loan provider

A Nigerian man has stirred reactions online after accusing a digital lending platform of harassment over an alleged repayment issue.

In his rant, he claimed that while he owes OPay ₦800,000 and only received reminder calls about overdue payments, PalmPay allegedly began contacting people in his phone list just days after his loan became overdue.

He expressed frustration over what he described as aggressive recovery tactics, warning the company to stop reaching out to his contacts.

He also stated that continued actions of that nature could lead him to abandon repayment altogether.

Although, it must be noted that PalmPay itself does not directly provide loans or hold a lending license. Loan services accessed through the app are offered by third-party providers, such as Flexi.

It is therefore unclear which specific lender is responsible for the alleged actions described by the man.

His words …

“All those frustrated workers working for Palm Pay, e no go better for Una. I dey owe Opay N800K. The only thing they did is to call and say Hello your loan is overdue when are you paying. Palm Pay na just 3 days overdue them don dey message my contact, dey swear for me say e no go better for me. Palm Pay, that shame wey Una think say I get, e no dey. That shame you people think I am hiding, I don’t have it. And lemme warn you people, anytime any of my contact receive any message again I go leave the loan like that, I will stop using the app. That money Una no go see am collect again….”
