Man advises his security guard to break up with his girlfriend before Valentine’s Day

A Nigerian man has stirred debate online after sharing how he advised his security guard to end his relationship days before Valentine’s Day.
The story, posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, has attracted mixed reactions from users who questioned his approach and interpretation of scripture.
How the Conversation Started
According to the man, he noticed his security guard looked unhappy while on duty.
When he asked what was wrong, the guard reportedly said he was broke. Valentine’s Day was approaching, and his girlfriend was expecting gifts.
The guard said he felt pressured because he had no money to celebrate the day or support her properly.
“Valentine’s Day Is Not Scriptural”
The man said he responded by warning him against celebrating Valentine’s Day.
He told the guard that Valentine’s Day was not scriptural and described it as “a sin” and “a tool of manipulation by the devil in today’s generation.”
He also warned him against what he called philistinism in the name of love.
According to his post, he reminded the guard of a biblical verse which says that if your eye causes you to sin, you should pluck it out.
He claimed that in this case, the guard’s love for his girlfriend could push him into actions against God’s will.
Break-Up Before Saturday
The man said he advised the guard to end the relationship immediately before Saturday.
He claimed that failing to do so could bring “doom.”
Later that evening, the guard reportedly returned to his door with news.
According to the post, he had called his girlfriend and ended the relationship, quoting scriptures during the conversation.
The man wrote that the guard felt relieved after “letting go of the burden of love and Valentine.”
A Meal to Celebrate “Victory”
After hearing the news, the man said he congratulated the guard for standing firm on what he described as the word of God.
He added that he gave him poundo and egusi soup to celebrate what he called a victory against philistinism.
The guard then returned to his duty post “all smiles,” according to the post.
