“Make sure you go to school” – Osimhen advises Beyond Limits players, donates ₦10m

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has admonished young footballers at Beyond Limits Football Academy to prioritise education alongside their football careers, while also donating ₦10 million to support their development.

Beyond Limits Football Academy, based in Ikenne, Ogun State, is the youth team of Nigeria Professional Football League champions Remo Stars.

The academy has gained recognition for its participation in international youth competitions, including the Gothia Cup in Sweden and the Viareggio Tournament in Italy, where it reached the semi-final stage in both events.

Osimhen reflects on background and discipline

Speaking on The Side of Football Nobody Talks About with Smallie, Osimhen shared personal experiences from his early career, stressing that success in football is built on more than talent alone.

“I know how [tough] it is to make it from the trenches, especially in football,” Osimhen said. “Many of you are just like me, and those who made it passed through the same struggles you’re facing today.”

The former Napoli forward highlighted three values he said shaped his career: belief in God, hard work with acceptance of setbacks, and education.

Strong message on education and humility

Osimhen placed clear emphasis on schooling, warning players against neglecting their academic development.

“In anything you do, make sure you go to school,” he said. “Make sure you’re educated, that you can read and write, and make sure you have the right people around you.”

He also encouraged humility, mental discipline and perseverance, noting that talent must be complemented by character and grace to reach the highest level.

“There are places your talent can never take you to that grace will,” the 2023 CAF Player of the Year added.

₦10 million support for academy players

After the session, Osimhen donated ₦10 million to the Beyond Limits players and wished them success in their pursuit of professional football careers.
