Maguire rejected Inter Miami move before Manchester United contract extension

Harry Maguire recently committed his immediate future to Manchester United after signing a contract extension, reportedly turning down a lucrative offer from Inter Miami owned by David Beckham.

The 33-year-old defender, whose previous deal was set to expire this summer, agreed a one-year extension with the option of a further 12 months. The decision ends speculation over a potential move away from Old Trafford, with interest also reported from Napoli.

Maguire prioritises stability over financial offer

Despite the financial appeal of a move to Major League Soccer, Maguire opted to remain in England, citing his belief in United’s long-term project.

“The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see,” he said. “I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”

He added: “Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day.”

Revival under Carrick drives decision

Maguire’s new found form under interim manager Michael Carrick played a key role in the extension.

The centre-back has started all 10 matches since Carrick’s appointment, re-establishing himself as a core figure in the squad.

His improved form also earned renewed international recognition, with Thomas Tuchel recalling him to the England setup after an extended absence.

Having made over 250 appearances since his £80m move from Leicester City in 2019, Maguire is now set to extend his stay into an eighth season at Old Trafford.
