Lookman loses Copa del Rey final despite scoring for Atletico Madrid

Ademola Lookman was on target but ended on the losing side as Atlético Madrid fell to Real Sociedad on penalties in the Copa del Rey final.
The match finished 2-2 after extra time at La Cartuja, with Real Sociedad holding their nerve in the shootout to secure their fourth title.
Lookman delivers in key moment
Atlético were forced to respond after an early setback, with Ander Barrenetxea giving Real Sociedad the lead with a header from Goncalo Guedes’ cross.
Lookman restored parity in the 19th minute, finishing clinically from a pass by Antoine Griezmann.

However, Atlético fell behind again before halftime when Mikel Oyarzabal converted from the penalty spot following a foul involving goalkeeper Juan Musso.
Penalty shootout ends Atlético hopes
Atlético pushed for another equaliser and found it late through Julian Alvarez, whose strike in the 83rd minute forced extra time.
Despite dominating large periods, Atlético could not find a winner, with chances going unconverted in both normal time and extra time.
The final was ultimately decided on penalties, where Atlético faltered early. Alexander Sorloth and Alvarez were both denied by Unai Marrero, giving Real Sociedad a decisive advantage.
Real Sociedad converted their remaining efforts to seal victory, leaving Atlético and Lookman to settle for a runners-up finish despite a strong individual contribution from the Nigerian forward.
